Teach for a Day

It was a wonderful start to the day with 19 bright, happy faces wishing me a happy birthday!  The first graders made this day so special by making a card and bringing me Hershey Kisses!  What thoughtful students!  AND they were able to keep it a secret all week- amazing!

Avery led Morning Meeting today for her awesome behavior and she did such a wonderful job!  She remembered each step and even worked the smartboard correctly.  This is the second time she chose, "Teach It"- I think we may have a future teacher on our hands.

During snack we had a special birthday delivery of cupcakes which we got to eat right away! I think the students were wishing they didn't start the "are you ONE, are you TWO, are you THREE..." chant after they sang happy birthday because by the time they got to, "are you TWENTY- FIVE, are you TWENTY-SIX, are you TWENTY-SEVEN..." they were tired and out of breath.  Luckily it didn't go too far beyond that. ;)

I think they enjoyed the cupcakes...

In math today we used a number line to skip count. Skip counting is so important!  Continue to practice skip counting by 2's, 5's, and 10's with your first grader.  Don't always start with 2, 5, and 10.  Ask them to start with 15, maybe 30, even 45.  Switch it up!  The more comfortable they with numbers, the easier it will be for them once math concepts become more challenging.

The students are continuing to work on writing complete sentences.  There is a LOT to remember about complete sentences so we practice often at school.  Today our sentence in SWR had a name in it- many us remembered that we always have to uppercase someone's name.

We are still learning about maps in Social Studies.  We have learned so much from our book, There's a Map on My Lap, I know the first graders will be so excited when they can make their own maps.

Thank you so much to those of you who have sent in food for our food drive.  We are collecting until Friday, so if you're able, please send in items!

Ryan B. and Summer enjoyed lunch in the classroom for their awesome behavior!

 My thoughtful gifts!

Hailey, our student of the week, shows off her favorite book!
