Final Thoughts

I've sat down to write this post a few times in the past week, but haven't been able to find the words to accurately portray what a year we've had together in Room 3... I'm not sure how to articulate just how much we've all grown and how much fun we've had together.

Indulge me while we reminisce for a moment about our year.

We've:

Collected Items for the Colchester Food Shelf

Had an awesome Halloween Parade
Participated in a Scooter Race

Made Cards for Hurricane Sandy Victims

Learned All About Water and were Featured on CSD Spotlight!

Put on an AWESOME Musical- GO FISH

Dissected Owl Pellets

Practiced Measuring and Graphing

Hatched Chicks!

Had an Awesome Field Day

...We've had two students move away and gained two new students.  We've had two families move to new houses, one new sister, two surprise vacations, COUNTLESS lost teeth and and priceless memories.

We've been pretty busy first graders this year!

I wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all of your involvement and support this year.  Thank you for 4 Winds, classroom parties, contributing to classroom events, practicing poems, completing homework, attending school events, and EVERYTHING else you do to ensure your kids are ready for the day.  Most importantly, thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me.  They are truly incredible.

I hope you have an amazing, fun-filled summer.  If I don't see you at the scoop shop, I'll be looking for everyone next year!

Vine Me

We've had some pretty atypical days around here lately, but we've been documenting them on Vine- an app we use for video clips in our room.

Today we learned a new game called Chicky Boom.  You can see that Vine and a Vine of field day by clicking the links below.  Enjoy!

As Sweet As...

We have been learning about similes-comparisons using "like" or "as".  We completed a fun activity today all about ice cream!  We decided what ice cream was...
  • cold as
  • sweet as
  • soft as
  • frozen as
  • tasty as
  • smooth as
  • creamy as
  • colorful as
Some of our favorites were, "As sweet as my mom, "as smooth as a cheek, " and "as tasty as cotton candy."

We took our Unit 10 math test today.  This is the last math test of the whole year!  We were so excited, we celebrated with an extra recess.  It was a perfectfully beautiful day for extra recess.

We are REALLY winding down to the end of the year now.  We prepared our June calendar and realized we only have 10 days of school left!  4 of those are Project Inside Out!

Tomorrow is Step-Up day.  Your child will be going to meet his/her teacher for second grade.  I know everyone is really excited about it!

Unit 10 Math

We reviewed for our Unit 10 math test today.  We will have our test tomorrow.  This test is pretty challenging and we realized today, what we need to practice the most is filling out number grid puzzles.  I know the first graders will do a wonderful job tomorrow!

Today, in your child's backpack, is information about Step-Up today on Friday.  Your child's placement for next year is on a green, folded piece of paper.  Please make sure you take that out of the folder.  There is also a lot of other information starting to come home.  Please be diligent about checking folders every night and getting them back to school.  Thanks!

We will having a final school-wide PBIS celebration on Friday afternoon as well.
