Community Helpers

Today in math we practiced telling time with our own clocks!  This was very exciting for the first graders.  We also started discussing elapsed time and what that means.  This is a very confusing concept, so the more you can talk about it at home, the better!  We'll be working on counting coins and telling time for our upcoming assessment so practicing at home would be great.
Look at those clocks in the air!

I'm tempted to teach them the song, "1, 2, 3 o'clock, 4 o'clock, rock!"

It was a wet, rainy day so we had indoor recess.  Luckily, indoor recess doesn't mean bored, quiet first graders.  Check out what they created during recess!

Summer and Mark built an amazing castle!

Ryan, Avery, Colin and Tucker built with Zoobs!

Our student of the week this week is Aaron!  He told the class all of his favorite things today and even read a page from his favorite book!  We all enjoyed hearing the note Aaron's mom wrote about him and couldn't believe how many similarities there were between school and home!

It was another recess-straight-to-P.E. day, and we have an extremely photogenic first grade class, so they asked me to document their amazing spiked hair again...

Today we were so lucky to have our very first community helper visitors!  Colleen Roach and Kelly Marlow visited in their full uniforms to teach us about working in hospitals!  We learned so much and even got to experience some aspects of that field for ourselves!

Mrs. Roach and Mrs. Marlow start their presentation in uniform!

Mrs. Marlow shows us exciting instruments from her Dr. bag!

Mark shows off his rubber gloves!

Aaron and Joud listen to their heartbeats.

 Ryan and Mark listen closely...

Connor holds the the cup so Jordan can hear his heart beat

Tucker and Ava take their job very seriously.

Wallah and Ryan are ready to go!

Mrs. Roach helps Trace and Gavin set up

Perhaps Jordan hears an irregular heartbeat?

The first graders try using real instruments to hear heartbeats

Mrs. Marlow has a great time being the focus of the first graders!

Reminder! Thursday, October 4th is Open House!  We hope you can join us!  There will be sign-ups for conferences (November 19th & 20th) at Open House as well- - please come prepared to sign up for a conference time.
