Triangles, Quadrangles and Polygons

We continued to review for our upcoming SWR test this morning.  The one letter that is tricking most of us is "x".  Now that we know so many spellings for the "cks" sound, it's hard to remember that a simple x can take care of it for us sometimes!

We reviewed what polygons are in math and then we built specific shapes and recorded how many sides and angles they had.  When we were done, we were able to build our own polygons and add them to our chart.  Many of us are intrigued by shapes and even tried to made 3-D objects when our work was finished.

In literacy we read an interesting Time for Kids magazine about the greatest inventions of 2012.  There were so many cool inventions.  We liked the dog app and the subamarine the most.

In Finn Family Moomintroll today, the characters found a sailboat on the edge of the water and had to decide what to name it.  This lead to a very interesting conversation about where our own names come from and who got to choose our names.  We learned so much about each other!

In science we learned all about the penguin life cycle because penguins hatch from eggs just like chicks do.  We are learning to highlight the most important information in articles that we read so we can find it easier when we go back to it.  We are also recording the information on a chart so we can compare many oviporous animals.
