3-Dimensional

We continued our review and discussion of shapes by talking about 3-dimensional shapes today.  We remembered the names, sphere, cone, pyramid, rectangular prism, cube and cylinder.  We learned new names for shapes that have 6, 8, 16 and 20 sides!  They are very big words that we are still practicing with.  We realized that we use many of these shapes when we use dice.

We did a great job with our SWR review today and have been working hard to practice during Word Work.  You can see pictures below of students who wrote EVERY red word today.  They are so impressive!

This week at recess is the walk/jog-athon.  We all ran and walked as a class today at recess which was a lot of fun.  Many of the first graders have set goals for themselves to always get one more lap than they did the day before.  We have excellent goal setters in Room 3 and they are always so happy when they have achieved their goal.  If, at the end of the week, we have run/walked 1,000 laps we will celebrate with a beach party!  We REALLY hope we have that many and are working hard to make sure we do our part and run at least 5 laps every day.

We learned about a new oviparous animal today- the sea turtle.  We practiced highlighting the important information and added the new information to our oviparous animal chart.  We are learning so much about animals that hatch from eggs.  Our own (chick) eggs are at day 15... we will probably (hopefully!) have peeping little chicks by Monday morning...

We also had 4 boys celebrate their awesome behavior with lunch in the classroom and had a dance party brain break!
