Beautiful Day

It was so nice to have a beautiful, sunny, warm day to play at recess!  We brought out our classroom hoola hoops and had a hooping contest!  It was so fun!

In SWR today we did an amazing job tapping our red words and writing our words of the week.  We did a great job using "festive" in a sentence as well.  It was very challenging Monday and Tuesday, but by today, we were using it correctly.  Our favorite sentence was, "We all looked so festive for Halloween in our costumes."

In math today we took our end of the year basic math fact test.  This test focuses on adding and subtracting 0, 1 and 2 to numbers, complements of 10 and adding doubles to 20.  We all worked hard.  We started to review telling time to the nearest 5 minute mark.  We will continue to do this tomorrow.

We couldn't believe when we read that the Ingalls family will be leaving their little house today.  We are so sad for them but are anxious to see where they might move next.  We were also forlorn becuase they had to leave their cow and calf with their neighbor.  Laura was very said because as they were walking away she said, "There goes the milk and butter."  We thought that was funny because we just go to the store to buy milk and butter.

We have been turning our eggs carefully 3 times every day and learning all about the process that takes place to hatch a chick.  Today, we learned about the parts of an egg. They are: air cell, albumen, chalazae, membranes, shell, yolk.  We read about these parts and labeled them on a diagram of an egg.  If you happen to crack an egg at home, ask your first grader to tell you about the different parts!

Please keep in mind the important dates from yesterday's post.  Friday is sports day- if you can, wear a sports related shirt!
