In math we continued to explore with dimes in addition to nickels and pennies. We have learned a few tricks to help us count coins, but it is still a tricky concept.
Joud and Hailey play penny-nickel exchange
Ryan and Ava work to exchange pennies
Trace and Colin roll and tally
Ryan B, Angie, Avery and Mark work together to count coins
We read another story about voting, Duck for President. The first graders loved this story and found many similarities between that and Vote. We are anxiously awaiting election results on Tuesday.
We are learning about past-tense words that end in "ed" and how the "ed" can make three different sounds- "ed"(wanted), "d" (learned), and "t"(tricked). Every time we come across a word we put in on our chart in the proper column.
During reading, Ryan F. took time to read me his favorite story
Jordan worked on building words (bonus points if you can figure out the last line!)
Hannah started a story about her mom.
Joud built short "i" words and the months
Avery, Tucker and Hailey read to each other.
They did a great job recording their reading
Summer started a story on the white boards
Wallah wrote about her baby sister
And Trace applied what he learned about "magic e" to spell the word, "lemonade"! When I asked how he spelled that he said, "Well, I already knew how to write lemon, so I added a, d, magic e to make the a say it's name! Brilliant!
It's going to be a great week!
