Welcome Back!

Well, it was a blustery welcome back to school today!  We couldn't even go out to recess after lunch because it was so cold with the wind blowing!  It was perfect weather to start our mini-unit about the month of January and snow, though.

There are only three days this week so we are spending the week reviewing in SWR.  This morning we practiced one word from each of our word families and 3 red words.  We were so impressed at how much we remembered about spelling and writing- even after a vacation!

In math we continued to compare numbers using the < (less than)and > (greater than) signs.  We compared animal weights and wrote number stories using our animal cards.  Look at us playing Animal card Top It:

In reading today we reviewed ending marks and practiced how our voice changes when we see them.  We also read some very funny poems as an introduction to something new in our classroom- Poetry Cafe!  Look for more information regarding Poetry Cafe in the next couple of weeks.

This group of first graders found lots of question marks while they were reading to one another!

We also added our red words and word families to our word rings and worked on our stories as well.

We are working to write New Year resolutions this week- if you've made one, share it with your child and make sure to ask them what their resolution is!

In my pre-vacation frenzy I made 4 math homework sheets in this week's packet.  Please only complete one per night this week and save two for Monday and Tuesday of next week!  Thanks!
